Get The Best Out Of Your Outfit Pics

Those who use platforms like Instagram or Tumblr can see we have all become our own version of a fashionista! It’s not just the fashion bloggers that are in spotlight, but everyone who has been taking shots of their outfit and posing for pictures.

No matter if you are a blogger or just someone who loves fashion, you’ll find this post very helpful if you’re looking for tips on how to make the best out of that outfit photo!

Show Confidence

You probably saw this one coming. Being confident while someone takes pics of you is the most important thing. If you’re not confident about yourself or the outfit you are wearing, it will show and people will notice it. Practice posing in front of a mirror if you’re not used to standing in front of a camera and lack confidence. All other tips will be useless if you don’t follow this one.

Chose an interesting or neutral location

For me, this is one of the most important things. Your outfit could be the best outfit the world has ever seen, yet if you take a photo in a location that is not attractive or in a location where the colors of your outfit simply melt with the background – you’ve failed. That’s why you need to pay a lot of attention to the location. You want to have something that looks good, however it shouldn’t drift the attention away from the outfit itself. If you’re not sure what location to use, then opt for a simple white background or something neutral. It will put you and your outfit in the spotlight!

Customize Pre-Made Filters

Apps such as VSCO are great if you wish to create a good, unique filter for yourself. You can use their own customized filters and then change specifics such as warmth, contrast, saturation, exposure etc. and after playing around with it for a while, you’ll create the filter that suits you the best. Make sure that you are consistent when it comes to filters. Chose one and stick to it so that your Instagram/Tumblr or whatever social media profile you’re using has proper aesthetics. Be careful not to ruin the natural colors of the clothing pieces you’re wearing with your filter – opt for something that only slightly boosts the way your photos look.

Pay Extra Attention to the Details of Your Outfit

Outfit posts are not only about how good YOU look in the picture. They’re about all those details you’re wearing – your bag, your shoes, your rings, bracelets, customized phone case, sunglasses etc. Put your details into the spotlight by taking specific shots of them. For example, take photos of your new sandals while standing and holding your bag to show off more than one detail – by taking pic of your shoes, you’ll probably give some spotlight to your jeans, your bag and your hand accessories. However, pay attention to location as well – you don’t want to show your new shoes while standing in a place which is not very pretty.

Don’t Shy Away From Using Reference Photos

Coming up with new unique and not some cliche poses can be a very hard thing to do for the person who is being photographed or the photographer himself. That’s why it’s a good idea to Google some good street style fashion photos and save them on your phone so that you can do similar posing later on when you find the proper location and everything else is all set. Instagram, Pinterest and similar platforms are all great sources of inspiration and using Insta models as your reference can help you out with promoting your outfit better.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask!

These are some extremely good tips. I was studying this post like i was going to be tested later lol. You’re correct about confidence. You have to have that in order to shine in front of the camera. Oh and your location has to play off of your outfit or else the entire pic will suck. Believe me, I know lol.

Great tips. Too much noise in the background can take away from your outfit.

So many great tips here! I started paying more attention to detailed shots and also I"m not shy when it comes to getting photographers know the exact shot I was looking for. I haven’t started to personalize VSCO yet, even though I uses it for almost every shot!

Thank you for these amazing tips, babe: I already use most of them. I also think it is very important to look confident on pictures and it is necessary to edit them after the photoshoot. You can create your own unique style if you use filters (VSCO are my favourite ones). Also agree that backdrop is very important, I literally spend hours searching for a good background (which is not easy in my city), but it worth it 100%!

These are such great tips Meg! I really love the one about being confident. I was soo self conscious when I first started blogging and it really showed in my photos! I can’t believe how much confidence really helps. Also neutral/photographable backgrounds are a must!

I totally agree with you on CONFIDENCE. Even if you have to fake it. The first few times I took outfit photos, I was so uncomfortable and you could tell in the photos. I’m still not super comfortable when I take them but I’ve definitely gotten better at faking it!
