I think that for us girls, there can never be too many hair care routine posts! Our face and our hair are perhaps the two most important assets that show off our femininity. That’s why we need to take really good care of it, right?
Having healthy hair is super important to me, but sometimes I’m struggling with every girl’s worst hair nightmare – greasiness! We all have bad hair days and very often deal with it by washing our hair, which is good for short term, but in the long term – it creates a lot of problems. The more you wash it, the more greasy it gets.
So, what to do? Well, there are couple of things which you can do, but you have to be really dedicated and try to just SURVIVE some of the tips. But it will make your hair more healthy overall and less greasy – every girl’s dream, right?
1)Â Dry shampoo to the rescue!
While I’m sure many of you know about how dry shampoos can be both time saving and effective, I wanted to include it in my post as a reminder. Don’t underestimate the power of dry shampoo. Yes, I know sometimes it is hard to get rid of the white patches and to blend everything perfectly, but some dry shampoos are available in your hair color! That solves the problem, right?
Apply it before going to bed, let it stay in hair overnight and in the morning you’ll wake up with gorgeous, hair that will have added volume.
2) STOP washing your hair.
Seriously, this is so important. It sounds gross – but in reality it’s the best thing you can do for your hair. When I say stop, I don’t mean don’t wash your hair at all. What I mean is try to SURVIVE for five full days without washing your hair. Find alternatives – braids, buns, cute ponytails, put a hat on – whatever. Just try to survive those five days, your hair needs to regenerate.
If you really feel like you can’t handle it for the whole five days, try at least for 3-4 days and you’ll see some changes, as well.
3) Use luke-warm water.
Hot showers are not a good option for your hair. The best way to wash your hair is when you use luke-warm water. I myself am a huge fan of hot showers, especially in the winter, but I do try to wash my hair with luke-warm water only. And trust me – I saw changes.
For a final touch, finish it up with a quick rinse with cold water – if it’s too cold for you to rinse it at your roots, then rinse only the parts that are not touching your scalp.
4) Find alternatives that will make you feel and look good.
I have already mentioned this above, but it’s really important to find alternatives such as braids, buns, ponytails to survive those 5 days of not washing your hair. Maybe you’ll even be surprised by the outcome if you try a new, different hairstyle and end up liking your hair more that way even on days when it’s super clean!
5) Wash until squeaky clean
There’s no wisdom to this – rinse out the shampoo and/or the conditioner from your hair until you hear those little squeaky sounds it makes as you touch it and run your fingers through it. This sound tells you that your hair is now completely clean and you have properly washed out all the shampoo/conditioner residue. If you don’t wash out the shampoo entirely, it may lead to greasier hair during the week because of the build up.
Remember – all of us are struggling with bad hair days. Everyone has them. The important thing is that you find the alternative that works best for you and I truly hope one of these five will help you in finding one. Stay gorgeous!

This is awesome! First of all I’m a huge fan of dry shampoo except I don’t like the white patches so I’m happy to hear that it’s actually available in colors. I definitely know why you suggest not washing for 5 days and finding ways to deal. I try to only wash my hair 2 times a week but I make sure when I do it’s squeaky clean and blown out properly. Sometimes it’s difficult to wait but I try braids. Thank you so much for this awesome post !
I adored all these tips, I use dry shampoo myself. I did not know about the 5 days. I will try and yes the water not super hot helps them to close the ends. Love it
Great tips! I always hear about dry shampoo but never have tried it. I will definitely be looking into it though. And you’re right about not washing your hair often. It takes the natural moisture out. Cool post!
I swear by dry shampoo for my greasy hair but I’m definitely gonna try these other tips!
Thank you for sharing these tips! I love learning about dry shampoo and I would love to try it. I do not wash my hair that often either. Perhaps twice or 3 times per week. Currently, I’m using all the Keratin line by CHI.
